So excited!

Dear Aidan,

I went to Dollarama and Michaels after daddy came home from work to pick up a few things for your birthday party in July. I know I still have 2 months til your birthday, but I'm going to be so busy that I have to really start thinking about your birthday party right now.
Let me just say that I am so excited for your party! I have so many great ideas for your birthday. Your birthday is going to have a theme. I just love themes. So what is the theme going to be? It's going to be a school-themed party. I'm going to be using a lot of primary colours for the decorations like reds, yellows, greens. I'm going to stay away from too much blue. I hate when people use blue for boys and pink for girls. I think that's so passe. I did a few tests tonight to customize some of the items. I'm going to take some pictures tomorrow morning because it's too dark to take pictures right now.

Here's what I have to work on:
- The birthday banner for the backdrop.
I got really cute Martha Stewart papers and I'm going to cut them to the size I want it and stick letter adhesives that I also got from Martha Stewart. The adhesive letters are perfect because it has a scholastic look to it because it's in a slab serif font. Hard to explain, but you'll know what I mean when I show you the end product. I was lucky that I had a 25% coupon for Martha Stewart products at Michaels.

- Printing out labels for the plastic baskets that I got at Dollarama.
I'm going to put the plastic baskets (I got it in yellow and green) throughout the tables at the venue and fill it with cookies for the guests to take with them. On the outside of the baskets (on each side) I'm going to put labels with 'Please take one' on it.

- Making loot bags for the kids that will be coming to Aidan's party.
I'm going to make loot bags out of brown paper lunch bags. I'm going to stick on the outside of the bags these cute library card pockets with a mini thank you card written on it. I'm also sticking a cute pencil on the fold of the paper bags. I'm going to fill the loot bags with Japanese Milky lollipops, I think I may make notebooks for the loot bags.

- Putting floral arrangements together to put on the tables.
I found these really cute mini paper flowers at Dollarama. I bought the more whimsical flowers- i.e., sunflowers because I think that's more appropriate for the school-themed party. I'm going to put 6 flowers in mini tin pails that I also bought at the dollar store. These will be placed alongside the plastic baskets.

- Preparing picture frames of you for the entrance table and the head table where you will be sitting.
I bought a really cheap (but pretty) frame at Dollarama and I'm going to be propping that on a wooden easel that I also found at the dollar store. I just have to find a picture that I love to put in there.

- Designing the cookie packaging for the loot bags and the plastic baskets.
I'm going to ask my mom to make some Sweet Rosie's cookies (in white macadamia nut and double chocolate chip) and I'm going to package one of each in a clear, plastic treat bag. I'm going to be designing a label for the cookies at the top. Not sure what it's going to look like yet. I first have to purchase the treat bags...

- Packaging the cookies.
I asked my mom to bake cookies for the giveaways so she will be baking 120 of them in macadamia nut and double chocolate chip. She'll do this probably 1 or 2 days before the event so that it won't go stale.

- Writing on the chalkboard that I bought at Indigo earlier this week.
I'm going to place the chalkboard on the entrance table before you enter the party room. I might write 'Welcome to Aidan's 1st birthday party' or something along those lines. I have to practice my handwriting on the chalk board.

- Coming up with a sketch for Patty (my cake designer).
I already have something in mind for her. I might ask her to do a stack of school text books with an apple on top? The book at the top could have Aidan's name written on it. OR, I was thinking of having her do a school slate with an apple on top. We'll see. I still have to talk to her about that on Sunday.

- Sending out the evite.
This is a must. I have to do this on Monday.

- Perfecting the clipboard.
I came up with an idea of putting a clipboard on the entrance table with 'Fact about Aidan' clipped to it and having sticky notes with random facts about Aidan stuck all over it. I came up with a mock-up, but now I have to print it out on good paper. I showed daddy and he wasn't sure about that. He is soooooo limited in thinking. He has no imagination. Ugh.

- Coming up with a table seating solution.
I went to Asher's birthday last Saturday and one thing that I found I didn't like was that there was noone assigned to a specific seat. I want to come up with a seating arrangement. I bought these really cool paper napkins at Ikea today. They sort of have the school-themed look to it because it reminds me of a notebook pattern. Anyways, I was thinking of placing that with a red apple on top of it with the person's name? I dunno because that means I have to buy a lot of apples... I have to think of a good solution.

- Come up with an itinerary for the day of the party.
I asked Auntie Jess to be an MC for the party. I asked her to narrate certain things that we will do at the party. In the Korean tradition it's customary to do a thing where you lay out different stuff on the table in front of the birthday boy/girl and whatever they pick out that's what they are going to be when they grow up. So for example, some of the items are a stethoscope (symbolizes being a doctor), money (symbolizes wealth), a pencil (symbolizes being studious), a spool of thread (symbolizes long life), etc. I have to get the items to lay out on the table for this. Plus, daddy is making a slideshow that we will show at the party.

Daddy just walked in and I was showing him all my ideas and he was so unenthusiastic. I'm so annoyed.
