Mommy and Aidan day

I had a carryover day from 2013 so I decided to take today off since you already had your annual physical exam today. I decided that we would make today Mommy and Aidan day. I was super busy at work for the past 2 weeks so I was so glad that I could spend a whole day with you. My co-worker had gone to an indoor trampoline place for a Forever21 event and I thought that was such a good place to take you. You can be a bit of a scared-y cat (actually, you're a BIG scared-y cat!) so I wasn't sure how open you would be to it, but I prepared you by telling you in advance where we were going so you wouldn't be overwhelmed.

We started the day by going to your doctor's appointment at 10am. Usually you are so good at the doctors, but for some weird reason you were in a silly mood. Whenever the doctor told you to do something you would fool around and not listen. For example, when the doctor was checking your tonsils, she lightly touched your chin. You screamed aloud, "She's tickling me!" and started giggling like crazy. Then when she was checking your eyes with a doctors light and told you to open your eyes really wide, you raised your arms, opened your eyes really wide and then stuck out your tongue and shook your head like a crazy person. Yes, I was annoyed, but more than anything I wanted to crack up laughing. You were so hilarious! The funniest was when she was checking your private parts. She got you down to your underwear and told you to lie on your back. She put on rubber gloves and pulled down your underwear to check down there. As soon as she lowered your underwear, you yelled out, "Mommy, she's touching my gotchu!!! (gotchu means penis in Korean)" I started laughing, but had to stop because I knew that would get you to act more silly.

Here's where you at right now:

Weight: 39.5 lbs
Height: 33.5"

The start of a hilarious checkup.
Your appointment ended sooner than I thought. Your trampoline time slot started at 1pm so we had a bit of time to kill. I thought that it would be a great idea to visit your Toronto grandparent's store since we hadn't seen them for a long time and since halbi is sick. You were so excited to go. When I saw halbi he lost so much weight… His eyes were also a bit yellow. I'm just praying that he is ok. He has his specialist doctors appointment on Monday at 3:30pm. I'm going to pray hard.

Halbi trying to get you to eat a ham and cheese sandwich. You loved it. You told me that halmi
was a great cook.

You said you wanted to be a "cooker" like halmi and halbi. Apparently you thought they were
cookers because they had on aprons. You kept yelling out your orders to them.

Just being silly all day long.
We had to leave pretty quickly because halmi and halbi's sandwich store was getting so busy because it was lunch time. And plus, we wanted to get to our trampoline place on time :-)

Mommy bought these Sky Socks for jumping. It has these special grips at the bottom that make
it really easy for you to jump.

You were pretty excited, but nervous at the same time.

I thought that I could jump beside you, but there was a bit of a separation between an adult jump pad and a kid jump pad. You were being pretty shy at first by trying to get me to come close to you, but it didn't take you long to really get into it.

All in all, it was an amazing day. You sweated a lot, I sweated a lot and we just had a blast
spending time together. Next Friday I have Kendall for mommy and Kendall day. I'm not sure
what I'll do with her, but I'm so looking forward to it.

First day of hip hop dance class

Knowing how much you love to dance and perform, I couldn't resist signing you up for hip hop dance class. Daddy wasn't too keen as he would rather have you in hockey, soccer or any other sports activities. However, it is apparent to me that you don't really have a penchant for sports and you seem to lean more towards the arts field.

The first class was good. I know you are always a little weary when it comes to new environments, but you didn't cry and you actually went into the class without a hitch. I thought that parents would be allowed in to observe, but we weren't. I guess it's a good thing because sometimes parents can be a distraction…

Now that you have started Kindergarten, I am teaching you new words. Your teacher has put together a communications folder in your backpack and it has a few beginner words for you to learn. Already you have learned quite a few. It's great because now I'm making you read these words while we read our bedtime stories together at night.

Some of the words that you know. I used an invisible marker that I got you to colour to
reveal the secret words. You loved that.

Roller skates and Pippi Longstocking

We decided to take it easy today and rest at home since yesterday was a crazy day with Kendall's birthday party. Daddy and your Vancouver grandpa were busy most of the day building storage shelves for the furnace room. I decided that I would take you out in the afternoon to try out your new roller skates that you got from Auntie Sara and Uncle Dan. Since you already got a helmut, elbow pads, knee pads and gloves from your Vancouver grandma for your birthday I knew you were ready to test out your new skates. I drove you to a nearby school and we practiced on the concrete path. You were pretty good, I must say. You didn't fall once.

Taking a break before skating.
When we got home I decided to try out something with Kendall. My friend, Jenn, posted a picture of her daughter, Naomi on Facebook with pigtails and she is much more younger than you. I figured since Kendall already had long hair on the sides (only on the sides) it would be perfect to try out pigtails for the first time. I already had small hair elastics on hand and I must say she looks pretty darn cute! I wish I did this for her birthday party now.

My Pippi Longstocking

I was trying to capture pictures of Kendall on my good camera, but by this time she was getting
pretty annoyed with me.

I tried getting you in the picture by having you hold Kendall, but she was having none of it.
Sigh.
Here's a cute video I took of mommy tickling Kendall.

After bath time I took a video of Kendall doing jam, jam while eating her dinner. It's so cute when she does it because it's almost as if she's doing it to impress me. I know it doesn't seem like it in this video, but when I call out her name she just does it automatically even if I don't ask her to do it.

Sports crazy

I hate to see my kids dressed up in non-Toronto jerseys, but daddy desperately wanted to do a photo shoot with you guys all dressed up in Canucks gear since the Canucks have their first playoff game today. Kendall is wearing your old Canucks jersey and you are wearing your customized Canucks jersey that Auntie Jane got you for your birthday. I hate to admit it, but you guys look pretty darn cute!

It was a beautiful day today (finally!) so I went out with Kendall to mail out your Vancouver grandmother's Mother's Day gift in the morning.

She had a blast holding the package that I was going to send out.

She is so active so I have to make sure there are stuff for Kendall to hold/touch or else she
will become restless. She is much more active than when you were a baby.

Look, the leaves are starting to sprout! I took Kendall and Rosco for a loooooong walk afterwards.
It was so nice to feel the sun and the breeze.
After dinner, daddy decided to go out to get himself new soccer shoes for this Summer. He also got you a pair of new soccer shoes as well as all the gear that is attached to soccer- shin pads, socks, pylons, soccer ball…

Here's some of your new gear.
You didn't know what the shin pads were at first so I demonstrated it by putting it on and knocking
on it with my knuckles. I explained to you that your shins were protected and having the shin pads
on would keep you from getting hurt.

You in full soccer gear :-)

Kicking the ball.

Kendall was crawling all over the place so daddy put her in the Bumbo to keep her still.
She was not happy.

Advent Calendar: Get a Lollipop & Make a castle picture

We didn't open box #22 yesterday. The reason why we didn't do it yesterday was because it was our family's Christmas dinner at Auntie Jess' new house and mommy was cooking all day. Daddy took you swimming in the afternoon so that you guys could be out of my hair. So we had to combine opening box #22 and box #23 today.

Holding the toy du jour- Bumblebee and Jolt.

First we open box #22.

I had 3 flavours for you to choose from. You chose grape.

I also got you to pose wearing your new Angry Birds socks that your Vancouver grandma sent
from Vancouver. She sent you so many socks!

A close-up.
You initially asked for Psy's Gangnam-style socks that I had gotten from my cousin in Korea,
but your Vancouver grandma couldn't find it in your size. She looked everywhere for them.
She ended up sending you tons of Angry Birds socks, Robo Car Poli, Spiderman. She also
sent Kendall tons of Hello Kitty socks. She is such a good grandma…

And what is in box #23?

Your final picture- the castle picture!

You love these lollipops. They are the ones that come with powdered rock crystals that pop
when you put them on your tongue.

Ready to work on the castle picture?

Peeling off the stickers to stick on the castle picture.

Haha. This is your face when you get frustrated at something. You were frustrated here because
the stickers weren't peeling off properly. What a bad temper you have…

Work in progress.

I wanted to take a picture of your 4 picture cards that you did. This one is the pirate picture
that you worked on on day #1.

This is the enchanted forest picture that you worked on on day #14.

This is the outer space picture you worked on on day #20.

And this is your final creation of the castle picture.

Just keep on trying

Daddy and I didn't want to give up on your skating lesson fiasco that I talked about on this post. Daddy had asked me to look for community centres around us that offered recreational skating so that he could take you again. You already learned the basics of raising your arms and learning to balance on your skates so all you needed was to practice on your own. You have a tendency to get frustrated easily when things don't go your way so daddy and I talked to you many times before today on never quitting when things don't work out. We were lucky enough that many of your favourite TV shows showed the characters skating. When I saw you watching those shows I talked to you about how even if they fell they didn't cry and they just got back up and tried again. I told you that if you wanted to skate you had to keep trying and never give up. I think that is the way to get through to you- repeat things over and over to you so that it brainwashes you. Keke. For example I would say, "Aidan, remember Justin (from the TV show Justin Time) fell when he was skating on the ice? And he didn't cry, did he? No… He got right back up and tried again. Aidan, it's ok to fall down. Everybody falls at the beginning. What's important is that you keep trying. Did Justin cry when he fell down? No… So is Aidan going to cry when he goes skating?" At this point you would shake your head and say, "No. I will not cry! I will keep trying!" I think that worked because you were totally eager when you went skating with daddy today.

Daddy actually took a day off today so he wanted to take you skating. The recreational skating was open at 6:30pm-8:00pm so we had to wait until then. The weather was horrible- it was raining and snowing at the same time and super windy.

Kendall all bundled-up in her bear suit at the skating rink.

Daddy putting your helmet on. He actually wasn't paying attention when he was buttoning your
strap because your skin got caught and you started shrieking/crying.

I had to calm you down. See the tears behind your cage?

There you guys are.
Kendall and I were sitting in the stands watching you guys skate. I had my coat over Kendall
because it was pretty cold.

I think kendall was quite warm. She slept the entire time :-)
At the beginning you were doing really well. You were standing up on your own and MUCH better than your last skating lesson. However, after a while you started getting a little wobbly. I took a video of you falling on the ice and you started hitting the ice in frustration crying out, "Bad ice!" Haha.

However, you didn't quit. That was the important thing. You got up and tried again. Here's a video I took of you skating on your own. This was the first time you did it on your own. I was so proud of you!
