Flower arrangements

Dear Aidan,

I'm really impressed with myself on how I'm managing my time these days. I feel like since I'm crossing off stuff on my to-do list I don't feel rushed to get things done. Today I finished the flower arrangements for your party decor. I was planning on ordering paper flower bouquets on etsy, but I found a cheaper alternative when I visited the dollar store. I love the dollar store, btw! I find so many great stuff there.
I found these cute paper flowers and cute tin pails and I thought it would be nice putting a mixture of 2 different flowers into the pail. I'm going to be distributing these throughout the tables at the venue. I currently made 15, but I'm not sure if I should purchase more. Since they are mini size I don't know if it will feel significant at the venue. We'll see.

Practicing standing

Dear Aidan,

Every day I see you trying to stand alone by yourself more and more. It makes me think that you will walk soon. Daddy and I have been trying to hold you up while you are in a standing position and help you take baby steps forward. I think the farthest you've gone was from your playroom to our bedroom. I try to do that every day at least once. Today while you were playing in mommy's bedroom you went to our chaise lounge chair and you stood up and actually took your hand off the chaise and stood for a good 10 seconds. You tend to do that when you are in your playpen downstairs, but I've never seen you do that in another environment. Good for you!

I've got to say that daddy has been really awesome today in helping mommy. He knows I've been frustrated because I was so tired of having to tell him what to do- i.e., change your diaper, feed you solids, etc. etc. He fed you twice today, gave you a bath by himself, played with you, and put you to bed. I know it's hard for him because he works a full-day during the weekdays and he has to come home and play with you. I know when I used to work I was brain dead by the time I came home. All I wanted to do was relax and watch TV. I'm really nervous to go back to work. I used to work so many long hours and even weekends. I hope that it has eased a bit because I really don't want our relationship to suffer. I hate not being there when you reach a milestone.

On another note, I finished the kids' notebooks that I'm going to be putting in the loot bags for your birthday yesterday night. I have so many things in my to-do list that I enjoy ticking things off once I complete them. Here's a sneak peek:

I made the notebooks in 4" x 6" size. I bought red 1.5" librarian tape on-line and used that to bind the pages together. I printed out 5 different covers and scored 0.75" from the top with a bone folder so that the cover would open easily. I included 9 different sheets of random papers (construction paper, lined paper, graph paper, colour pages, dotted paper) and stapled it all together before glueing the cover and back cover together. I found this really cool double-side tape dispenser that is like glue when it dries at the dollar store. It works like those white-out dispensers. I liked how it worked like glue without the messiness of glue.
I didn't staple the cover and back cover together with the inside pages because I didn't want the staple mark to show through the librarian tape. I made 20 notebooks, but so far 11 kids are coming to your party. I want to make sure I have some extras to keep for you later.

A day in the life of...

Dear Aidan,

So I've decided to do something different from my other posts today. I wanted to do a little photolog of what goes in the day-to-day life of you. I thought it might be fun to do something so you will know how we spent the day together later on. I thought of doing this after you had woken up today so I didn't take any pictures of you right in the morning. Too bad. I'll be sure to do that next time I do this kind of post.

This was taken around 10:00am this morning. You had woken up around 9am this morning. What I normally do is get you out of your sleep sack, change your diaper, and then breast feed you in bed with me. Usually I'm so tired in the mornings so I tend to feed you in bed with me. After that you play in our bed a bit. Then I bring you downstairs and put you in your playpen and turn on Treehouse while I go upstairs to get ready (brush up, shower, put on makeup, etc.). So this was after I did all that. I was surprised to see you had messed up the blanket I put down on the playpen and all of your toys were outside of your playpen.

This is what I mean by having all your toys outside of your playpen. You must have thrown it out while I was upstairs. What a rascal you are.

10:36am

Time for coffee. I normally drink 2 cups of coffee. While I was pregnant with you I cut coffee altogether. I craved it so much then so I've been going crazy over coffee afterwards. I'm not sure how I'm going to survive when I get pregnant again...

While the coffee was brewing I took a quick look outside. Daddy and I have been taking out the weeds all week because we want to lay out fresh grass seeds soon. You can see all the bald patches where the weeds were growing. My wrists and fingers are all blistered and sore. It was hard work.

Time for coffee and leftover pizza! Mmmmm.

You were watching mommy eat while you were in your playpen. You kept throwing out all your toys out and mommy had to keep putting it back in. It was tiresome work.

Time to play Humpty Dumpty. It's a game where I put you on the ledge by our foyer and I sing 'Humpty Dumpty' to you. You love it.

Now it's your turn to eat solids. You were getting cranky because you were hungry.

What to eat? I think I'm going to try the pork, carrots, and potatoes. I'm trying to get you comfortable eating meats. You're pretty good with vegetables and fruits.

Happy Aidan.

All done!

Now time to drink some water in your sippy cup. I always do this after every solid meal.

Now you are full and tired. I think you have the itis.

It's time to go upstairs to change your diaper and then breastfeed you. I've been getting you to climb the stairs on your own so you get tired and it helps you practice using your legs. You need to get strong so you can walk on your own soon.

Since you are an expert at flipping over I have to distract you with toys when I change your diaper. This dragon toy that I got in a McDonald's Happy Meal is a lifesaver. It cost me nothing, but you love it.

See the sock tan I was talking about the other day? Ugh.

After I changed you I brought you downstairs again to breast feed you. You fell asleep while doing that. You tend to do that. Look at your angelic face.

Oh no! You woke up! What could have woken you up?

It's the yogurt commercial that woke you up! Yogurt commercials always have a jingle and you stop whatever you are doing to watch it.

Luckily you only woke up for a short moment. You fell asleep and I was able to put you down in your playpen for a nap.

This was after your nap. I normally do some freelance stuff while you are taking a nap. Usually your naps are somewhere between 30 minutes to an hour and a bit. When I came down I saw that you had thrown out all your toys out of your playpen. Oh boy. Here we go again...

It's time to take you upstairs to play in your playroom. You've been loving the drums that Auntie Sara got for you while she was in her honeymoon in Hawaii. You love banging on it and putting it in your mouth.

While you were playing I took a quick look outside the window. Such a beautiful day, but HOT. I think today was over 30 degrees as well. I thought about taking you outside for a walk, but I don't want you to burn. So it's a no go.

A series of photos I took of you while you were playing. You always move the baby bible around your playroom like it's a car. I think I have to buy you a toy car next time I'm at the baby store. You love sliding it across the room. You were doing that while also moving the soccer ball around. Rosco was fascinated watching you do that.

Another lazy day for Rosco. All he does is eat, sleep, pee/poo, and sun tan. What a life.

Back to the drums.

Your birthday party preparations on the top of the bookshelf.

Time to do some more work for your birthday. Right now I'm trimming the labels for the cookie packaging.

Here's what it's going to look like. I'm going to put that on the top of a clear treat bag. That will go in the plastic baskets so guests can take a cookie package home with them.

While I was working on that you were sitting in your Oeuf chair with your teething toy. I love how you are holding it with your mouth.

I was able to get a good 30 minutes of work done because I had Four Squares playing on YouTube from my computer so you were entertained. I love Four Squares!

Time for solids again. This time it's the rice congee with vegetables that your Toronto grandma made for you. She put rice, zucchini, carrots, mushrooms, onions, and a tiny bit of salt.

You are still getting used to the texture of the rice because it's not pureed like your other foods.

Rosco always eats when we eat. Here he is eating his foods while you are eating yours.

You were so fascinated watching Rosco eating his food.

After eating I put you in your jumper and put some Cheerios on your food tray to snack on.

Playtime on the couch with mommy. I blocked the front of the couch with my legs so you couldn't fall off. You kept standing up and going side-to-side from one end of the couch to the other.

Another diaper change. Your stomach is getting pretty big because you haven't pooed in 2 days. Oh boy. Not this again...

For your 3rd solid feeding I'm going to give you pears with prune juice because pears and prune juice are known to relieve constipation. Hope it works.

Before every meal I try to pray with you.

It's almost time for daddy to come home. He always comes home at 6pm. We were waiting in the foyer.

Daddy's home! We are going out to eat and we are also running errands too.

Daddy always spends time with you outside sitting on our porch.

Aidan: Where are we going?

We stop by at Lowes. Daddy needs to pick up a few items for the house. Luckily they had a shopping cart with a built-in baby seat. A lifesaver!

You look pretty comfortable.

A little too comfortable! You fell asleep right away. BTW, if you want to know, that is a pimple right below your right eye. It's scabbed now. I call it a beauty mark.

Out for the count.

Dinner at La Taquizza, a Mexican restaurant. Mommy loves Mexican food!

Time to go home. It's dark now. You are dead tired.

Bath time with Aidan.

Formula feed before you go to bed. I couldn't take a picture of you when you fell asleep because the flash would definitely wake you up. Goodnight sweetie sunshine.
