Yesterday, our city had the biggest rainfall in its history. It was quite unexpected because I kept checking the weather in the morning and it only said there was a 30% chance of rain. We actually went out together in the morning in your wagon. We went around the block and even went to Rexall to pick up shampoo/conditioner for your Vancouver grandmother who will be coming in today. It was very hot and humid, but sunny. Around 4pm it got really dark and started raining like crazy. Our neighbourhood was ok, but the rest of the city was flooded and several highways were closed due to flooding. Subways were shut down and there was a train that was stuck due to flooding. Commuters got home close to midnight and even later. It was an absolute mess outside. On top of that, 300,000 people lost power for more than 4 hours.
My friend texted me this photo of the DVP (a highway) outside of her condo. It was shut down and completely flooded. I can't believe this is my city… |
Today the weather is still gloomy and it is still raining in parts of the city, but much better than yesterday. I was worried because your Vancouver grandmother was supposed to get in at 5:29pm today, but her flight has been delayed. Now it looks like she's getting in at 6:31pm. I'm glad she is still able to get in because yesterday all flights were cancelled due to the storm.
