Dear Aidan,
Yesterday was... extremely difficult for daddy and I. Dadd took another day off because you still were feverish. Daddy kept me updated on how you were throughout the day, but unfortunately you weren't getting better. When I came home from work you were delirious and breathing short, quick breaths. Your stomach, back, and head were boiling hot while the rest of your body was ice cold. When I changed your diaper I noticed your skin was blotchy with red and grey spots around your stomach and legs. I was extremely worried at this point. I decided that it was time I called Telehealth. I spoke to an after hours nurse and she asked me lots of questions about your symptoms. At one point she asked me to put my hand over your stomach and count how many breaths you took by seeing the rise of your chest in a given time. When I told her you took 38 breaths (I think that was in a span of 30 seconds) she advised me to go to ER straight away. I didn't think it was that serious, but I began to panic. Daddy and I quickly changed you and headed over to the closest hospital by us. We got to the hospital just before 10pm. We didn't think it was going to take that long- 2 hours max, but we ended up staying there for 5 hours!! We were waiting forever and in between we had to get you tested for different things. You got a X-ray taken as well as a pee sample, blood sample, and rectal temperature taken. You were so exhausted and cranky that you cried every single time the nurse and doctor tried touching you. When they were taking your blood from you arm the nurse wrapped you up in a blanket so that you couldn't move. I think you were so anxious that you started crying right away. You kept looking at daddy and I just yelling for our help, but we couldn't do anything. I had to look away because I thought my heart was going to break. It was a terrible day for you. I'm sorry. I apologize!
The doctor and nurse were asking us why we hadn't given you infant Tylenol. They were saying that with the fever that you had you could've had a seizure! I'm so mad because we had infant Tylenol at home. I just thought that drugs were not good for babies ever since the time our local pharmacist told me that babies under 2 years old shouldn't be given drugs. Ugh.
The good news is that all your tests came back negative. The doctor said you probably caught a virus from daycare, but you should be fine. He said you will probably be in and out for 3-4 days and that we should keep giving you drugs if your temperature got high.
Today, Auntie Sara came over to babysit you. It was so helpful because both mommy and daddy had to go to work. Daddy got 2 hours of sleep. We were both zombies. Tomorrow, we are putting you back in daycare, but I'm so scared that your fever will return and daycare isn't allowed to give you drugs. I'm afraid they will call daddy and I telling us to pick you up again. Daddy already missed so much of work and mommy is in the busiest time at work...
