Happy 3rd birthday Rosco

Dear Aidan,

Today is Rosco's 3rd birthday. Because of the lack of attention Rosco has been getting ever since you were born I decided to take him out for a walk with us today. I know it wasn't much, but Rosco's been home almost every day. Both daddy and I are so tired sometimes that we don't take Rosco out for a walk.

While we were at the park I wanted to put you in the baby swing. I didn't push you too hard because it was a totally new experience for you. However, I think you really enjoyed the back-and-forth motion and the wind blowing your hair.

Aidan 'Alfalfa' Kim

Dear Aidan,

You've been sporting a very interesting hairdo for the past couple of days. I call it the 'Alfalfa-do' because it reminds me of Alfalfa's hairdo in the movie The Little Rascals.

Today, and even yesterday, you kept repeating 'umma' over and over again. I think you are now beginning to understand that it means mommy. When I leave the room and you can't see me you start saying it over and over again. I'll post a video of you saying it over and over again yesterday.

Need to have it!

Dear Aidan,

If you know mommy you know that I will only buy things are useful AND aesthetically beautiful. If it works, but isn't pretty I will not buy it. I just came across this Boon Grass Countertop Drying Rack on Nicole's website and I just went gaga over it. Currently I put your baby stuff in the same drying rack as ours, but I always wanted to keep it separate. This is just perfect and it's not too expensive. I think it's about $18.99 on their website. Plus, it'll make our kitchen countertop more 'green' looking. Love it! Now to find out where they sell it in our area...

Who bought you that ball?

Dear Aidan,

Daddy came home from hockey yesterday and he bought you a mini soccer ball. I guess he had stopped by National Sports to sharpen his skates before his hockey game and he saw the ball and thought of you. I think he's pretty eager to play soccer with you. He's been so excited that so many of our friends are having boys or already had boys because he wants to make a soccer team. What a geek.

Daddy tried rolling the ball with you today and you were so amused by how it was rolling around. You kept laughing every time you caught up to the ball (while crawling, of course).

What else... today was the first day I fed you fruits. I peeled organic bananas and pureed it in the blender with a little bit of water and lemon juice. It was so yummy! You seemed you like it, but we'll see tomorrow. Lately your bum area has been bleeding because I think the texture of your poo has now changed. Your poo is no longer watery and curdle-y. It's more like a thick paste. Gross, but true. Both daddy and I are careful not to rub at that area with a wipe really roughly. I have to figure out a way to make it heal... It sucks that every time I put you in your jumper you seem to poo. So I'm constantly changing and wiping your bum bum.

Meet baby Isaiah

Dear Aidan,

Today you and I visited Erica to see her new baby, baby Isaiah. You seemed giant compared to him. Although he weighed more than you at birth (at 7lbs 8oz), he seemed TINY. I couldn't believe you were that size when you were born. It shows you how much you have grown.

You were pretty fascinated by him. You kept smiling at him. I'm really lucky that you are pretty expressive. I find that some babies are non-expressive. You laugh, smile and do all sorts of funny things. I find you so interesting that way. Anyways, mommy made some food for Erica and dropped it off at her house. I know when I had you I was really thankful when my mom dropped off food for me.

Here you are posing with Isaiah:

Who are you to talk to me like that?

Dear Aidan,

I'm still fuming from this morning. I'll just recap what happened. I put you to bed around 10pm because you looked pretty tired. Daddy said he had a Canucks game to watch on TV so he was downstairs while I was putting you to bed.
Anyways, you went to sleep while I was feeding you and I put you in your crib. However, you woke up many times after that crying. I think I had to go to your room to soothe you back to sleep like 3 times. It was brutal. The last time you woke up was around 2am. You actually were standing up in your crib crying and no matter how many times I tried patting you back to sleep you would not fall asleep. I think daddy heard you this time because he came in your room to tell me to bring him into our bed. I wasn't happy about that, but I decided to do so. When I put you to bed with us I breast fed you. Even though I breast fed you you were still very squirmy and tried to move around in our bed. I had to do the 'clamp down' on you, which is putting my leg over your mid area to prevent you from flipping. So by this time everyone was tired. I thought that you would sleep through until the morning, but you woke up at like 5am screaming/crying. I tried doing the 'clamp down' again, but you would not have it. You were crying and crying. Then daddy lost it. He started belting out how he has to go to work, how he's so tired, blah blah blah blah blah. But instead of getting mad at the situation he started getting mad at me! He actually said aloud 'tomorrow I'm going to bed at 10!'

Umm... go ahead buddy. You're the one that stayed up to watch the Canucks game. Nobody forced you to do that. Plus, it's not like you slept at 12am. Aidan slept at 10pm. So you could have easily slept earlier. Don't blame me.

I'm just so sick of this bad attitude. We are all in the same boat here. I put you to bed EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. And even though I don't go to work now it's still hard. I hate it when daddy tells me, 'well, that's your job'. No it's not! It's his job too!

Look at that bum bum!

Dear Aidan,

Here you are wearing the most fobbiest piece of clothing in your wardrobe. Actually I find it pretty cute. It's weird, but all the clothing that we got as gifts from Korea have this bear patchy thing in the bum area. Since you've been growing out of all your pants I found this in your dresser and put it on last night. It's a little long for you, but it's not bad.

You're taking a much-needed nap right now, but I tired you out by playing with you in your play room. You love to go by the window sill because it's at the perfect height for you and you love people watching. We happened to be looking out the window when kids were walking home from school so you had a lot to look at.

However, while you were by the window, Rosco came to your room and I think he was fascinated by that bum. He actually went close to you and sniffed your bum! Ha!

After much playing I finally put you down for a nap. Bliss!

Playing peek-a-boo

Dear Aidan,

So I've been meaning to post this for a while now, but I was so busy and sick these past couple of weeks so I wasn't able to. This is you playing peek-a-boo with mommy while you were in your high chair. You were pretty cranky so mommy put your burp cloth over your head and this entertained you for quite a while. Also, when I said 'ju sae yo' which translates into 'please give it to me' in Korean you handed me the burp cloth.

Excuse mommy's voice in this video as I was sick at the time.

All I want for my 8 months is my 2 front teeth...

Dear Aidan,

Here's a quick photo I took with my iPhone of your 2 upper teeth growing out. It came out really quickly. You are now 8 months this past Monday. Time sure does fly...

I think you are starting to take to solids a lot better than last week. You devoured your food today. Usually it takes me 30 minutes to feed you a tablespoon of solids, but today I gave you 2 tablespoons of yams and you finished it off in 20 minutes. Wow.

Sleeping beauty

Dear Aidan,

This is a photo of you taking a much-needed nap half an hour ago.

You were quite vocal today. You were talking jibberish a lot in your new jumper. I'm hoping you'll say 'umma' very soon. You've said it in the past, but I don't think you knew what you were saying. I want you to know that 'umma' means mommy so that you can call out to me when you need me. Yesterday you were saying 'appah' quite a lot, but again I don't think you know that it means daddy.

Today was quite a good day because you were able to eat solid foods very well. I was worried because you've been very fussy with eating solids. Today you polished off all your foods every single time we fed you.

I also tried teaching you how to pick up your rice rusk snacks and put it in your mouth. I've been putting it directly in your mouth prior to that, but I want you to build your motor skills. You were just picking it up with your hands and sucking on your fist. I don't think you know how to use your index finger and thumb to direct the snack in your mouth yet. It will come with time.

Baby Einstein Jumper

Dear Aidan,

So mommy and daddy went to church for the first time together in a while. It's been quite hard because we've been so sick lately. Everyone was saying how different you looked now. They said you got bigger and you're starting to look more like me. Yes!

At church, I sat you down in a saucer today that was in the baby room and you loved it. My friend YJ was telling me that I should get one for you. That or a jumper. Actually, she's been telling me to get a jumper for the longest time, but the reason why I didn't get it for you was because when daddy and I were looking into it the label said the weight limit for the jumper was 25lbs. I thought you would grow out of it really quickly (you were 16lbs at the time) so we didn't want to invest in one if you couldn't get a lot of use out of it. Little did we know that babies would plateau in weight around the 20lb mark. My other friend Grace said her 2 year old son is only 26lbs and he is quite a big boy.

I told daddy we should go get it and we rushed to Toys R Us to get it for you. We got the Baby Einstein Musical Motion Activity Jumper. The good thing about it is that you are able to entertain yourself because the seat swivels 180 degrees and there's a lot of little toys stuck all around it to occupy your attention. That way mommy and daddy can leave the room for a quick second without having to worry about you.

After I assembled it you played in it for a good 20 minutes and you were so pooped after. You are currently taking a nap. Double yes!

Look at Aidan in his polka dot pants

Dear Aidan,

So for the time being I'm putting you in these really fobby, polka dot pants that you got from Korea. All your other pants are in the wash. Today was a pretty hectic day for mommy. I got called in to do a presentation at Home Depot for a small project that I am working on. I had to ask Auntie Sara if she could watch over you for an hour or so. Luckily she was able to. However, why is that when you are with other people you act like a total angel, but when you are with us (mommy and daddy) you act like a little devil??? Even now, you seemed pretty exhausted so mommy tried to put you to sleep, but once I put you down you started crying. I'm really getting sick and tired of this fighting sleep business. I have to figure out a way to get you to sleep on your own or else... !!!

Playtime

Dear Aidan,

So you did something quite funny while you were playing in your playroom the other day. I was reading you a picture book and one of the pages had a picture of a dog with the word 'dog' written on it. Whenever I opened it to that page (with the dog) you burst out laughing! I don't know if it was because the dog sort of reminded you of Rosco, but you just loved that page. I think I captured it on video, but you weren't in as good of a mood as when you first did it, but you still smiled. However, I'm sad to say that even though you love Rosco, I don't think he likes you all that much. While you were playing in your playroom he was suntanning in the corner and almost fell asleep. That is, until you started chasing after him!

You think that's hard?

Dear Aidan,

Here you are being all finicky while you are eating this morning. Well, try trading shoes with me for one minute. It's absolutely exhausting! Sometimes it takes more than 40 minutes to feed you because you get so restless. But we have to keep feeding you. We have upped your intake of solid foods (cereal and pureed vegetables) to 3 times a day.

Right now daddy is trying to put you to bed. I tried for an hour and it didn't work. I tried an hour ago and it didn't work. Ugh!!!!!

*UPDATE*
So it's 1:15am now. 2 hours after this post. It took me this long to put you finally to sleep. I had to play with you in your playroom for an hour. I'm so tired...

Growing your upper teeth!

Dear Aidan,

Haha. Look at you making gang signs. You think you're so tough? So today I noticed that your upper teeth are starting to come out. Yipee! I've been checking it constantly for the past few days because I think it's about time that your upper teeth start coming out.

I think your cold is almost gone too now. That's great news for me. Once I get over my sickness I'm hoping I can get some things done that I've been meaning to finish. Such as, making table runners for our dining table, making more velcro fabric snaps for your toys (I have to make some for mommy's friends as well), making dish towels (I accidentally put bleach on my older ones the other day. Oops!), and finishing making personal business cards for my future side business.

Here are some very cute photos of you playing in your crib today. You kept trying to eat the crib railings!

You just love putting everything in your mouth these days.

Look at that devil-ish stare.

Daddy laughed when he saw this photo. You look so googly-eyed!

This is another thing you are good at- sticking out your tongue.

You got distracted by Rosco at one point. He started doing his disco dance right by your crib. What an attention whore!

You are so enchanted by Rosco, but he doesn't give a flying f*#& about you. Sorry about the expletive...

Where is mommy?

Dear Aidan,

I took this photo of you while I was at the top of the stairs today. You heard something so you were looking for me, but couldn't see where I was. I think it was because I was in the shadows. Kekeke. You looked so confused.
Anyways, let's see... today was another indoor day for you and daddy. I think daddy was pretty tired from this whole week. I, however, went out and ran some errands. It was terrible out! It was so rainy and windy. I stopped by Planet Organic, which is an organic supermarket, to pick up a few vegetables to puree for you today. I bought yams, carrots, baby broccoli, and squash. I think that's the most interesting thing that happened today. Mommy is still really sick. My voice is gone and my head is just throbbing.
