Playspot part 2

Dear Aidan,

Mommy and daddy got you all tired playing on your Playspot before putting you to bed. I'm not gonna lie, both mommy and daddy are absolutely pooped. You woke up at 2am today in your crib crying. I had to eventually bring you over to our bed, but instead of sleeping you were trying to crawl all night long. Then when mommy finally got up at 10:30am she found out that you had pooped and it had seeped all over your clothes! Oh boy.

When I look at the picture of you above I laugh because I see Rosco in the background walking away dejected. Poor guy... He used to be the king of the house and now he gets no love. Mommy felt terrible for Rosco so she took him for a long walk outside even though it was freezing. I think he liked it.

You got your foam mat!

Dear Aidan,

So I've been wanting to get you a foam mat for a very long time. You see, ever since you learned how to roll, it's been harder and harder for me to control where you go. Also, I don't want to constrain you in the playpen all day. I want you to have the freedom to explore your surroundings. I saw the Skip Hop Playspot a while back and I've been loving the simple and modern design. Lucky for us it went on sale at Babyland today. So mommy and daddy rushed to pick it up for you. It's not as big as I would like it to be, but I'll add more squares as you get bigger.

Afterwards we dropped by Vaughan Mills. I guess you were tired because you feel asleep right away in your stroller and boy was it cute! You slept with one foot out of your stroller blanket. You looked like an angelic baby.

When we got home, mommy assembled the play mat and you loved it! You were banging it with your hands and you were crawling and rolling around freely. Score!

Aidan the size of a coffee bean

Dear Aidan,

This is you at 12 weeks. This was your first ultrasound. I think this was when I found out that you were going to be a boy. If you look at the second ultrasound you can see your legs outstretched. You were quite the active baby- always kicking inside mommy's stomach. You know, it's amazing how you started out like this and now you are so big. I still get amazed whenever I look at you that you were in my stomach! Anyways, I just thought you might be interested in seeing yourself as the size of a coffee bean.

Besides that, Melissa and Liz stopped by today to visit us. Melissa brought her son, JP, with her. He's about 2 weeks younger than you. I knew Mel when she was pregnant so it's so amazing to see how big her son got. Pretty soon you and JP will be walking around. I can't wait until you get old enough so that mommy and daddy can take you to the zoo and other exciting places!

Naptime with Aidan

Dear Aidan,

You don't really take naps during the daytime. If you do, you usually nap for half an hour or less. However, you slept for almost 2 hours today. It was quite surprising to mommy. You first slept on mommy then on Auntie Sara. It's funny because you can sleep with anyone. You aren't picky at all. Doesn't Auntie Sara look like Snooki from Jersey Shore? Haha. Anyhoo, here's a video of you and daddy playing last night. One thing both daddy and I love to do with you is hold you on your stomach and do the 'superman' where we swing you forward and backwards. You love it! You always open your mouth and smile and one eye is always open wider than the other. Kekeke. Okay, enough of that. I have to put you to bed now. Daddy is playing with you and you are very cranky because you are tired. Daddy just said to me, "Can you put the little guy to bed now, he is out of control!"

Dear Aidan,

One thing that I really enjoy doing with you is reading to you. Although now it's getting more difficult to keep you from being distracted... Two of my favourite books are Sparkle and Spin: A Book About Words by Ann and Paul Rand and Bruno Munari's ABC by Bruno Munari. You know I just love anything made by graphic designers. You, on the other hand, just love all the colourful graphic images on the books. I think you were more interested in eating the books rather than reading them... *grin*

So active, so out of control!

Dear Aidan,

The more bigger and older you get the more active you become. Today while I was taking pictures of your jammies on our chaise lounge you flipped over so suddenly and hit your head on the wall (ouch!). You were ok, but it's becoming more difficult to keep you still. I especially have trouble when I'm changing you on the change table. You love flipping over and grabbing whatever items you can get your hands on. I think it's time mommy and daddy get you a foam mat for you to play/crawl/roll on. That way you're not on a carpet where Rosco roams around freely and it's soft enough that if you fall over you won't hurt your head.

Aidan and friends

Dear Aidan,

Eddie, daddy's childhood friend growing up, was here in Toronto for a business trip and he got you so many stuffed toys. You especially loved the penguin one and the big bear. I think Rosco was jealous of you because he kept coming around sniffing all your toys. To be honest, I don't think Rosco likes you very much. You adore him, but I think he's jealous of you. Ever since you came in the picture he was been pushed aside. He used to be mommy and daddy's baby before we had you. Please be nice to him when you get a bit older. He's quite sweet.

That small bum bum.

Vanity insanity

Dear Aidan,

So I've been noticing that you like watching yourself on video. Mommy has been recording videos of you and I sometimes turn it on for you to watch yourself. You especially love the video of yourself when you are saying hello to your paternal grandparents when they were about to go to Hawaii for vacation. I guess it amazes you to see yourself on video so you always laugh or smile. I think you get a kick out of hearing yourself crying or making a lot of noise. I just HAD to capture it on camera.

Print overload

Dear Aidan,

So Auntie Sara thought it would be funny to put a lei over your neck and put you on the Eames rocking chair. However, it was too much of a pattern overload when I snapped a picture of you on it. The Skip Hop blanket with the Atelier LZC pillow, the lei, and your bear outfit was just too much. But you looked so cute in the chair regardless. Now you are able to sit on it no problem.

Aloha!

Dear Aidan,

I know I already did a post earlier today, but you just got a package from your paternal grandparents in the mail today. They sent some souvenirs that they got while they were vacationing in Hawaii. One of the items you got was a really cute black and white outfit and a lei. Mommy and daddy had to put you in it even though it was for 12 months because it was sooooooo cute. Just thought I would share.

BTW, daddy wants to do a shout out. He's so silly. He always wants to do a shout out. He wanted me to do one during my speech when I was the Maid of Honour at your Auntie Jess' wedding. He also wanted to do one when he was saying a little speech/prayer during your baptism ceremony. I told him not to do it because it sounded like a hip hop thank you speech and I didn't think it was appropriate.

Aidan crying at night

Dear Aidan,

Most of the times you are very good sleeping through the night. However, there are nights when you are an absolute terror. It takes mommy hours to put you to bed. This past Sunday was one of those nights. Mommy and daddy were trying desperately to try to put you to bed before our favourite show, 24, was on TV, but you had other plans. You were crying, crying, crying and there was nothing we could do. We eventually had to keep you awake and play with you for another 2 hours before you decided to finally fall asleep. You can tell from the recording that mommy was exasperated...

Aidan's first foods

Dear Aidan,

So lots of stuff happened today. You got your 6 month vaccination shot from your doctor today. Daddy and mommy took you in the morning today. You are currently weighing in at 7.42kg (that's app. 16lbs), 69cm in length, and 43cm in head circumference. You are now in the 25th percentile in weight and 50th percentile in height. You used to be in the 90th percentile in height... I can't blame you. Both mommy and daddy are short. Mommy got her physical done today and she is a whopping 5' 2-3/4".
Anyways, when mommy took you home Auntie Sara came over and we gave you your first solid food in your high chair. You turned 6 months today so the doctor told me to start you on solid foods. I gave you a tablespoon of rice cereal mixed with a tablespoon of breast milk. I thought it tasted yummy, but your expression when I first gave it to you wasn't that good (see the video). I was actually pretty sad to give you solid food because that just means you are no longer dependent on mommy for food. Although breast feeding can be a pain and an inconvenience sometimes I really started enjoying our special bond together. Now that I'm starting you on solids I feel like you are getting older and less dependent on me. I know it sounds cheesy, but that's how I feel. Anyways, you only had a teaspoon of the food I gave you, but I will try again tomorrow.
