Mommy and Aidan day

I had a carryover day from 2013 so I decided to take today off since you already had your annual physical exam today. I decided that we would make today Mommy and Aidan day. I was super busy at work for the past 2 weeks so I was so glad that I could spend a whole day with you. My co-worker had gone to an indoor trampoline place for a Forever21 event and I thought that was such a good place to take you. You can be a bit of a scared-y cat (actually, you're a BIG scared-y cat!) so I wasn't sure how open you would be to it, but I prepared you by telling you in advance where we were going so you wouldn't be overwhelmed.

We started the day by going to your doctor's appointment at 10am. Usually you are so good at the doctors, but for some weird reason you were in a silly mood. Whenever the doctor told you to do something you would fool around and not listen. For example, when the doctor was checking your tonsils, she lightly touched your chin. You screamed aloud, "She's tickling me!" and started giggling like crazy. Then when she was checking your eyes with a doctors light and told you to open your eyes really wide, you raised your arms, opened your eyes really wide and then stuck out your tongue and shook your head like a crazy person. Yes, I was annoyed, but more than anything I wanted to crack up laughing. You were so hilarious! The funniest was when she was checking your private parts. She got you down to your underwear and told you to lie on your back. She put on rubber gloves and pulled down your underwear to check down there. As soon as she lowered your underwear, you yelled out, "Mommy, she's touching my gotchu!!! (gotchu means penis in Korean)" I started laughing, but had to stop because I knew that would get you to act more silly.

Here's where you at right now:

Weight: 39.5 lbs
Height: 33.5"

The start of a hilarious checkup.
Your appointment ended sooner than I thought. Your trampoline time slot started at 1pm so we had a bit of time to kill. I thought that it would be a great idea to visit your Toronto grandparent's store since we hadn't seen them for a long time and since halbi is sick. You were so excited to go. When I saw halbi he lost so much weight… His eyes were also a bit yellow. I'm just praying that he is ok. He has his specialist doctors appointment on Monday at 3:30pm. I'm going to pray hard.

Halbi trying to get you to eat a ham and cheese sandwich. You loved it. You told me that halmi
was a great cook.

You said you wanted to be a "cooker" like halmi and halbi. Apparently you thought they were
cookers because they had on aprons. You kept yelling out your orders to them.

Just being silly all day long.
We had to leave pretty quickly because halmi and halbi's sandwich store was getting so busy because it was lunch time. And plus, we wanted to get to our trampoline place on time :-)

Mommy bought these Sky Socks for jumping. It has these special grips at the bottom that make
it really easy for you to jump.

You were pretty excited, but nervous at the same time.

I thought that I could jump beside you, but there was a bit of a separation between an adult jump pad and a kid jump pad. You were being pretty shy at first by trying to get me to come close to you, but it didn't take you long to really get into it.

All in all, it was an amazing day. You sweated a lot, I sweated a lot and we just had a blast
spending time together. Next Friday I have Kendall for mommy and Kendall day. I'm not sure
what I'll do with her, but I'm so looking forward to it.

I can't sleep

I talked to my parents today because Auntie Sara told me that your Toronto halbi was feeling sick. Auntie Sara said your halbi lost a lot of weight and he just had low hemoglobin levels and was just super tired. When I talked to halmi on the way home from work (around 6pm) she said that your halbi had a doctor's appointment at 3:30pm today. This appointment happened before I talked to Auntie Sara, but she hadn't heard what the results were. Halmi said that the doctor found 2 tumors in halbi's pancreas… 2. Immediately I started freaking out inside. My colleague at work lost her dad to pancreatic cancer recently. It's called the "silent killer" because it goes undetected for a long time until it's too late and almost 85% of patients die within the first year. I know it's still too early as halbi is seeing a specialist at Sunnybrook Hospital ASAP to find out if this tumor is benign or malignant, but I can't help but worry. I'm just so worried that I'm shaking. I'm so worried for my mom because she is so dependant on my dad…

Last day in the infant room

My baby is growing up…
Today was your last day in your infant room before you move to the toddler room. You teachers- Amanda, Laryssa, Nadia and Noah were kind enough to make a card for you with all the handprints of all the babies in your class. So cute!

Not the best picture. Look how your hair is. You are in dire need of a hair cut.

The cute handprints of the babies in your class.

Chicken pox?

Daddy texted me this afternoon saying that your daycare called him saying that you were covered in spots and to take her to the doctors right away. At first I panicked because I thought you got chicken pox. I was in production at work so I was working late almost every day so I knew I couldn't afford to take any days off. But then I remembered that you got your chicken pox vaccine a few months ago. I told daddy about it, but he decided to pick you up anyways. When he got home he sent me a video trying to show me your body where all the spots were, but you were acting all shy and not having any of it. I think you had a reaction of some sort. I have a suspicion that you may be allergic to some fish as you also broke out in hives when I gave you salmon a few days ago. I'm going to have to ask your doctor during your 18-month checkup in a few weeks. I'm hoping that it's not, but we shall see!

It's hard being a parent

I'm not going to sugar coat what it is to be a parent. Yes, it's amazing and I wouldn't trade it for the world, but it is H A R D. I've been struggling ever since I started work trying to balance it all. If you've noticed that I haven't posted as many posts, it's because I am literally pooped by the end of the night. I wake up at 6:10am every day and get both you and Kendall ready for school. On a school day, I have to pack you lunch. I'm always in a mad dash to get out of the house every morning because I always feel like I'm running late. It doesn't help that you sometimes throw a tantrum because you don't want to turn off the TV. Then I have a full day at work where it's always hectic. I usually work late so by the time I get home it's close to 7pm (or later). Sometimes Kendall is sleeping and sometimes she's not. If I'm lucky and she is awake, I put her down to bed. She usually sleeps around 7pm. By the time she is down, I have to get you ready for bed. There's a whole routine there- brushing your teeth, washing your face, reading you a book, going through your communications folder from school, praying, kissing you goodnight. Sometimes you cry… er, most nights you cry… because lately you've been scared of the dark. By the time both of you are down, I'm exhausted and I just want to crash. Then, I would either eat dinner (if I didn't eat already) or I get ready for the next day. I usually have to cook dinner for the next day so that you guys have something to eat when daddy brings you home. Then I shower and just watch TV or shows on my iPad.

Daddy is another story. He has his whole routine he does with you guys too- he picks you both up from 2 different daycares, he gives both of you a bath, he feeds you and plays with you. On the days I come home late, he puts both of you to sleep. It's not easy being a parent! Sometimes I wonder why I live like this and if there is light at the end of the tunnel. But I know all that hard work is forgotten when you kiss me and tell me you love me. For Kendall, all she has to do is smile and make kissing sounds with her lips (she doesn't really know how to talk yet).

Problem solver

We have a tradition of borrowing library books every 2 weeks. It's a good tradition, but we tend to borrow at least 10 books at a time when we go to the library. Having all those books stacked on top of your dresser was becoming quite an eye sore. It also didn't help that you are a little bit of a hoarder and you tend to bring scraps of paper from school/daycare and you have it strewn about. Then you sometimes bring your toys from from the basement- whatever is the flavour du jour. What I'm saying, is that the top of your dresser was just too cluttered with crap. I've been thinking about it for a while now and I decided that a basket would be a good solution. It would keep all the books together, while keeping them hidden. And the basket would be a nice decor accent in your room. I told daddy about and he said if I saw something I liked, then I should just get it.

I happened to go to the mall today to buy Auntie Sara her birthday present and I stopped by one of my favourite decor places while I was there- Chapters Indigo. I had seen their woven baskets a few months back and I had it in the back of my head. Now that I knew we needed a basket, I wanted to check them out more closely. They had several different styles of baskets, but I settled in the one below. It was bigger and had a bit of weight to it. There was a smaller basket that I initially thought I was going to buy, but once I put some books in it, it started tipping over from the weight of the books. I'm happy with the one I got. Plus, I used some of my points so I got it for just over $20. Score!

For now, I have the basket beside your dresser. It's a beautifully woven basket. I would like
to get more for other spaces in our house.

I only have 3 books in here, but it can fit a whole lot more.

20/20

You had your annual eye exam today. It was a pretty mild morning compared to the crazy weather we've been having. The sudden warm air after days of freezing temperatures created a heavy fog.

The good news is that your eyes are still 20/20. The optometrist did say that you had a slight astigmatism. But he said it was really common.

You are always so good when it comes to going to the doctors or dentist. I think you really enjoy
it. You did everything that the eye doctor told you to do.

Beautiful find

I'm always on the lookout for stuff for the house. I don't always want to rush to buy something just because I have to. I have to really love it.
One thing that I have been looking for a long time was a display of some sort for your jewelry. You got a few gold rings and a gold bracelet as gifts for your 1 year birthday so I wanted to put them in a nice display case. Initially, I was looking for a clear acrylic box like how I had displayed Aidan's gold rings, but I found something even better. I happened to check out Anthropologie during my lunch break because I knew that lots of stores were having their end-of-season sales. I had been eyeing their jewelry boxes for a long time, but they were so pricey. I was hoping that I could get one on sale. That is, if they even had any left. I found exactly the one that I had been eyeing and it was on sale! It's a beautiful cream-coloured jewelry box with sequins and beading.

And here it is opened with your 2 rings and bracelet inside. I'm hoping to add to that collection.
