Birthday cake

Daddy turned 38 today. I still can't believe it. He still looks quite young for his age. Well, that's what everyone tells me. Can you believe I've known him for 13 years now???
This year because we had so many things going on- finishing the basement, preparing for baby Kendall's arrival, we decided to keep our birthdays pretty low-key. I ordered a special gift for daddy (TBA), but it didn't come in time so I felt pretty bad about that. So instead I decided to bake him a last-minute cake. I have a great icing recipe that I got from Auntie Sara so I baked him a chocolate cake with vanilla icing this afternoon. You were pretty excited the whole time and couldn't wait for daddy to blow out the candles.

The son he never had…

Your Toronto grandparents invited us all over to their house after work for a family BBQ. It's Canada Day long weekend so it was great to start off the long weekend with good food and company.
I was a little worried because you again didn't sleep at daycare so I thought for sure you would be cranky at the grandparents house. However, you were the complete opposite! You were a delight and you played sooooo well! I was actually pretty shocked. I think it helped that Auntie Jessica brought some toys that you can play with while you're there since they don't have any toys for you to play there.
You also have a special bond with your ha buh ji (what you call your Toronto grandpa). He just adores you to a tee. I think it's because he was always surrounded by girls and you are the son he never had. It's quite a sight seeing you guys play because he acts like a little kid when he's around you.

Sleeping in your new bed

Now you know why we got a bed guard? Look how close you are sleeping on the edge!
You slept in your new bed the first night we got you your bed sheets all set up. This is now your 3rd day sleeping in your new bed and I must say the transition was pretty smooth. I thought you would wake up in the middle of the night and freak out because you didn't know where you were, but that never happened. Also, you don't seem to mind that we moved you into your new room. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that once Kendall is born you won't feel jealous of her being in your old room.

More stuff for Aidan's new room

Now that we are counting down the days until baby Kendall arrives there are a multitude of to-do things on mommy and daddy's list in preparation for your baby sister's arrival. One thing that we wanted to do this weekend was to buy your bedding for your bed and a bed guard. We got the bed guard at Baby Safety Superstore (around $50) because we were worried that you might fall off your bed in the middle of the night. You are notoriously known for constantly moving around in your bed so having a bed guard gave us peace of mind. We also got a vinyl mattress cover to put under your bed sheets at Beddington's (around $14). I regret not buying the more expensive one (the one that came with a zipper to zip all around the mattress) because the one I bought- it had elastic corners- ripped in 2 of the corners when I was putting it on. The reason why we desperately wanted a vinyl mattress cover was because you still aren't potty trained and we are afraid that once we take the diapers off you may have some accidents in the middle of the night. Plus, you have frequent nose bleeds and I can't risk having your mattress be ruined because of it.
We then stopped by HomeSense to buy you a duvet and lastly we stopped at Ikea to buy your duvet cover and pillows. Let's just way we are pooped!

I set up your bed sheets and guard rails when I got home and here is the finished result:

Next on our list is putting your toddler bed back to a crib for baby Kendall.

Who doesn't like sleeping???

Daycare has been telling us that you have a hard time napping. They were telling daddy that you were disrupting the other kids during naptime by singing to them and teaching them about their A,B,C's. Oh boy…
Whenever you come home nowadays you are an utter nightmare because you are so tired and cranky. I don't know what to do with you to make you sleep at daycare. I mean, who doesn't like sleeping??? I know that's one luxury that I wish I could have- to sleep and not be awoken.

Today daddy sent me a picture of you sleeping on the couch after you got home because you again didn't sleep at daycare and you conked out on the couch.

Kendall's banner

With just a little over a month left until baby Kendall arrives there are so many things on mommy's to-do list that I have to do to prepare for your little sister's arrival. One thing that I was able to check off my to-do list was Kendall's banner for her room.

I used the same template for the banner I made for baby Emma. However, I just changed the colours around and
used a different pattern for the background.

Here I am threading the ribbon through the banner letters.

I hung the banner up today, but it's not looking perfect as I still have some of your stuff in Kendall's room.
The colours aren't going well with some of the stuff in there so I'll have to do a little bit of arranging to make
the room look a little more girly.

To the best daddy in the whole wide world!

You made daddy a sweet card at daycare this week and this is what you brought home on Friday. We gave it to daddy on Friday and you were so proud of showing it off to him that I couldn't resist taking some photos of you.

I think the left-hand thing is supposed to be in the shape of a tie. It had a poem written on it that was so touching.
On the right was your Father's Day card.

And here is your beautiful artwork inside the card. My amazing artiste.

Close-up of the poem.
Daddy is an amazing father to you and I couldn't ask for a better father figure. I can tell how much you truly adore him and I hope and pray that you grow up knowing that daddy loves you more than anything in this world.

Boy aquatic

If there is one thing you love it's the water. Daddy took you swimming this afternoon for a parent and tot free swim at our local community centre. Mommy enjoyed watching you and daddy play in the water because you were kicking and splashing and just having a ball. Pretty soon we'll have to enroll you in swimming classes ;-)

34-week checkup

I did my last ultrasound today. I'm now 34-weeks pregnant. I was able to see baby Kendall and she is getting so big! I saw her big eyes and she was moving around so much in mommy's belly. She is so different from you already. The doctor told me that I'm doing fantastic and Kendall is at the 40th percentile. That is good because considering how small I am I don't want to be having a huge baby. She's now about 4lbs 6oz.

Here's the difference between you and Kendall:

- Kendall moves around much more than you in mommy's belly
- I had terrible cystic acne in my first trimester with Kendall. With you, I had great, clear skin
- I had terrible heartburn with you during my last trimester. With Kendall I seem to be doing much better
- I think I gained more weight carrying you than with Kendall
- I had these terrible red bumps all over my belly when I was carrying you at my last trimester. I have yet to see that carrying Kendall
- I feel very low carrying Kendall. Sometimes it feels like she will come out so I have to pace myself to slow down.
- I am much more out-of-breath carrying Kendall
- I feel very uncomfortable all the time carrying Kendall. Especially when I'm lying down. I have to sleep on my sides because the pressure when I lie on my back is too much for me to bear. At first I could only sleep on my left side, but lately it's much more comfortable sleeping on my right side.
- I had terrible back aches during my 1st and 2nd trimester with Kendall. I had to roll over to the sides and crawl sometimes because my lower back killed!

I'm curious to see if the labour will be much different. I had a pretty good labour with you so I'm definitely scared that this time around I'll have it hard… We shall see!

New bed & dresser

Ta da! We picked out your bed this past Sunday at Ikea. It's called the Nyvoll bed in light gray. We got you the full size. Daddy and I have been working on putting it together a little bit every night after we put you to bed. Here it is set up in your new room once Kendall arrives.

Here is daddy taking all the parts out of the boxes. At first you wanted to help, but it was easier when we set it up
without you touching every little thing.

Your Toronto grandparents were kind enough to buy you the bed and mattress. Now we have to get a plastic
cover to protect your mattress. We are still training you to go potty so we need to make sure your mattress
doesn't get ruined.

Mommy moved your banner from your old room to your new room. You are still sleeping in your old room in
your toddler bed, but once we get your bed sheets we plan on moving you to your new room soon.

And that is the 6-drawer dresser that your Vancouver grandparents got you. It's the Nyvoll 6-drawer dresser in
light gray/white. This dresser took FOREVER to assemble!

Say cheese Aidan! You were pretty excited about your new bed and dresser.

Our couch came!

Our new leather sectional that we had ordered from Decorium came today. It's in a beautiful taupe-y gray colour called Mushroom. I absolutely love this couch. It matches our basement perfectly and it's so comfortable. We took you down to the basement after your nap and you were like, "Woah! A new chair!"

Here you are enjoying the new couch while watching TV. Oh, we also got a new TV for the basement.
Here's a video of you watching TV. We were watching the Blue Jays game against the Boston Red Sox. This was the game that your Toronto grandparents went to watch because we (the Han sisters) got them tickets a while back.
